Chair-flying scripts that actually work

I’ve been giving my students a one-page script for pattern work — downwind to touchdown — with timed callouts and radio phrasing, and it’s cut our first-solo prep by about one lesson on average. If you want the blank template or have tweaks for short/soft-field versions, I’m happy to trade notes so we can polish the cues together.

I’ve had students wear the headset during chair-flying and use a pen as “PTT,” reading the script out loud with normal cadence — it makes the radio flow stick like karaoke for the pattern. Timed callouts work, but I swap in visual gates on windy days, e.g., “turn base when the aiming point is 45° behind your wing” instead of X seconds.
